The VOD Observatory recently published updated statistics on VOD in France. At the end of June 2009, 4.356 films released in theatres were available on the main French VOD platforms (Canal Play, Orange 24/24, TF1 Vision, France Télévisions VOD, Virgin Mega, Arte VOD, Club Internet and Universciné). The offer rose of 35% since June 2008.

According to the NPA-GFK barometer, the VOD market is estimated at €41,2 million for the seven first months of 2009, in rise of 52,6% when compared to 2008. Single rentals still represent 99% of the transactions, and 93% of the turnover is made on IPTV. The market is therefore concentrating even more on IPTV (82,5% in 2007, 90,7% in 2008). The average price of single rentals is stable, comprised between €3,70 and €3,80 for films.

The Observatory will hold its next meeting in March 2010 and will analyse, amongst other things, the impact of the new media chronology.
