In its
March 2009 study on the video
market in France, the CNC published some statistics about the catch-up TV market and uses.
According to the Global TV October 2008 study by Médiamétrie, the number of French users that have used catch-up TV on PC or IPTV rose from 4 millions at the end of 2007 to 5,6 millions in October
2008. In addition, according to a GroupeM study also dated October 2008, 52% of the Internet-users questionned said they were watching free TV programs on the Internet after their broadcast.
American TV series and general news are the most popular programs (35% and 31%, respectively), whereas films are almost not available on free catch-up TV services.
The main offers are that of France Télévisions (France TVOD, Orange 24/24), M6 (M6 Replay), Orange (24/24 TV - ex "Rewind TV"), Arte TV (Arte+7), Paris Première (Paris Première VOD), TF1 (TF1
Vision). Regarding the film offer, the only services available are those of Canal Plus, Canal Satellite and Orange (for Orange Cinema Series subscribers).
